My Travel Resolution.
discover hidden myths, taste diverse food and sleep below a sky full of shooting stars and galaxies every night
Is it possible to travel to Holland without having to stop in Eindhoven, devastated during World War II. Without much charm, it is famous for its football team, the famous PSV, as well as for the electronics company Philips. It is to the latter that the most fashionable city in the Netherlands owes its development as well.

But I advise not to immediately remove Eindhoven from your itinerary. In fact, the city can be very interesting as a base to visit its surroundings with some unusual things to do in Eindhoven. As an example, I will tell you that Amsterdam, the capital, is less than an hour and a half by train.

As we know, it was Edison who invented the light bulb, but the production on a large scale was something of Gerard Philips and his father Frederik. History tells the Philips Museum, but also the Art Hotel, in the city center, with rooms from 100 euros. Part of this four stars is inside the old tower of light where incandescent lamps were manufactured at the end of the 19th century.

And although there is little time to see the immense collection of modern and contemporary art of the Van Abbemuseum, just to see the spectacular building of Abel Cahen is worth approaching the river Dommel.

Visit the Strijp-S, the old Philips factory and headquarters of the Dutch Design Week. If you play at home PSV, Eindhoven is an opportunity to go to the Philips Stadion or visit its open air museum. Rent a bicycle at the Tourist Office and pedal to Neunen, one of the cities where Vincent van Gogh lived and where it is possible to see many of his most world famous works.

Finally, Eindhoven is also known for its airport, where low-cost airlines usually land. It can therefore serve as a gateway or exit to the country, with the consequent savings in the price of your tickets. So, when you go to buy or book your plane ticket, be very aware of Eindhoven. Often the rates to fly there are very interesting. In short, Eindhoven is really interesting as a base or to get to or leave the country.

How to Get from Eindhoven Airport to Amsterdam

When we organized the trip to the Netherlands, one of the things to start our adventure was to know how to get out of the airport and get to the area where we were going to stay, in this case, we chose an Airbnb on the first day to the outskirts of the center of Amsterdam. Many low cost airlines such as easyJet, Transavia and Vueling fly to Amsterdam's main airport, Schiphol. Without a doubt the best option if you want to go to the center of the capital.

There is also another alternative, that of flying to the Eindhoven airport. In this case, you can probably find cheaper tickets. The only drawback is the distance. Eindhoven is one hour and a half from Amsterdam. Ryanair, Wizzair and Transavia are the low cost airlines that fly to Eindhoven Airport.

In this post I will explain how easy it is to get to Amsterdam from the Eindhoven airport. As soon as you leave the airport there is a bus stop. Look closely, because if you do not have buses waiting you may miss it. We took the bus that left us at the Eindhoven train station. Even if it creates a bit of confusion, the train station and the bus station are together.

In that station was where we bought some cards with which we can access all public transport. While we were buying our cards, we took advantage and asked the girl what was the next train to Amsterdam Central Station and we went to the corresponding platform. The road to get to Amsterdam from the Eindhoven airport was quite simple and it only separates us an hour's journey.

Since we left the Eindhoven train station, all the landscapes we saw on our way were incredible. All very green, full of color and animals. Without problems we arrived at Central Amsterdam and from there we took the tram to our Airbnb house.

Places to Visit near Eindhoven

Amsterdam does not appear in the list of the 10 most expensive cities in Europe, but we cannot say that it is precisely one of the cheapest. And it has too many things to see, visit, explore and discover and can be done at a low cost. Yes! Keep reading and discover our tips to enjoy a trip to the city of canals and tulips on a budget.

One of the most authentic ways to get to know Amsterdam is on a bicycle and there are more than 600,000 bikes in the city! As soon as you get to the city you will see that there are many bicycle rental establishments. Prices vary depending on the company you choose, but they are usually around € 10-15 per bike per day.

Amsterdam has the highest density of museums in the world. So if you plan to visit all or a large part of them, decide to buy the I Amsterdm City Card. It allows unlimited use of public transport and includes entry to 38 museums, as well as a cruise through the canals. Keep in mind that the average cost of a ticket to a museum is € 15.

Some of the most popular places in Amsterdam are the Het Scheepvaart Museum (National Maritime Museum), the Rijksmuseum, the largest museum in the Netherlands and where you can see the painting, Watch The Night by Rembrandt, the Van Gogh Museum, which has the largest Van Gogh collection in the world or the Anne Frank House (the "refuge" where Anne Frank wrote her diary during World War II).

The most touristic districts of Amsterdam are Central Amsterdam, Red Light District and Leidseplein. Amsterdam has a fabulous public transport system. You can book a hotel or a hostel outside the city center and then move by bicycle or public transport without problem. Walk through the Central Canal Ring of Amsterdam and visit these aquatic monuments with more than 400 years old.

Visit the Begijnhof, an interior garden surrounded by houses and buildings. Do not lose sight of the number 34, the oldest house in Amsterdam. Let yourself be surprised by the striking and promiscuous Red Light District. Sit on one of the benches next to the Amstel River and watch the Magere Brug lift bridge in action. Open every 20 minutes to let the boats pass.

Discover the art of the Dutch Golden Age at the Civic Guards Gallery (Schuttersgalerij). If the weather permits, take the opportunity to have a picnic in Vondelpark. Surely there will be some free concert. There are always people with a guitar in hand. Visit the Dam Square and enjoy some of the shows that are made in it. Enjoy the smells of Bloemenmarkt floating flower market.

Enter Westerkerk, the huge Protestant church where Rembrandt's tomb is supposed to be (there are several theories on this subject). If you are thinking of traveling during the spring or summer, especially on dates close to the Queen's Day (April 30), or when the Keukenhof Gardens is open (between March and May), be sure to book in advance to get a better price.

Keukenhof, in the vicinity of Haarlem, a city 20 km west of the capital, Amsterdam, is one of the most sumptuous steps to see in Holland. Do not go there in any other season than spring, and never after mid-May. In this way you will guarantee the most wonderful experience. In the heart of the tulip region, Keukenhof is undoubtedly one of the most extraordinary places you can ever see during your trip to the Netherlands.

Beautiful, wonderful, wonderful, sublime, it is difficult to find an adjective at the height of this place. Imagine then, being in a huge garden of 32 hectares and 7 million flowers of incredible colors. In spring, very sure that you will believe you are in the midst of any of the most beautiful works of master painters.

It is practically impossible to find the words that describe and match the sublime beauty of Keukenhof. It's almost better if you do not hesitate to go there yourself to experience this sensation. It is an extension of so vast terrain that the best thing is that you travel it by bicycle.

I am sure that it will be a time when your eyes will not be able to see so much color, and you will undoubtedly have one of the best memories of your trip. Those who are photographers or fans of photography, I fix that you will go crazy with happiness.

Restaurants in Eindhoven

If it is a beer, the first stop may be a microbrewery Brouwerij het Veem. If live music is your thing, you can visit the hotel bars and restaurants near the restored Klokgebouw industrial building.
