The Amarnath Yatra is one of the most revered and physically challenging pilgrimages in Hinduism. Situated at an altitude of 3,888 meters (12,756 ft) in the Himalayas of Jammu & Kashmir, the holy cave shrine houses the naturally formed ice Lingam of Lord Shiva.

📝 Registration & Permits
Registration is mandatory. You cannot proceed past the base camps (Baltal or Nunwan) without a valid Yatra Permit and an RFID card.
1. Eligibility
- Age Limit: 13 to 70 years.
- Health: You must be physically fit.
- Restrictions: Pregnant women (6+ weeks) and children under 13 are not permitted.
2. Compulsory Health Certificate (CHC)
You must obtain a CHC from an authorized doctor/hospital. The SASB releases a state-wise list of authorized doctors in March/April. Certificates from unauthorized private clinics are rejected.
3. How to Register
- Online: Via the SASB official app or website.
- Offline: Designated branches of PNB, SBI, J&K Bank, and Yes Bank.
- Fee: Approx. ₹150 - ₹250 per person.

Route A: Pahalgam (Traditional)
Distance: ~46 km | Duration: 3–5 Days
- Best for first-timers and elderly pilgrims.
- Highly scenic and better for acclimatization.
- Physically exhausting due to the long distance.
Route B: Baltal (Short Trek)
Distance: ~14 km | Duration: 1–2 Days
- Best for fit trekkers and those short on time.
- Very steep and narrow tracks.
- Prone to landslides; less scenic.

🏠 Accommodation & Food
You cannot stay overnight at the Holy Cave. You must return to Panjtarni or a base camp.
- SASB Huts: Prefabricated huts with beds/quilts.
- Tented Camps: Available at all major stops (₹500–₹1,500/night).
- Food (Langars): Free community kitchens serve hot vegetarian meals along the route. Fried items and cold drinks are banned for health reasons.
📱 Mobile Connectivity
Prepaid SIMs from other states do not work in J&K. Only BSNL Postpaid works reliably on the trek routes. You can purchase a special "Yatra SIM" at base camps with your Permit and Aadhaar.
